Two Year Enrichment Plan for Transfer Students
Fall - Year 1
- FMST Newsletter: Get up-to-date by reading the quarterly FMST newsletter.
- FMST Instagram: Follow us to get the latest Feminist Studies news. Contribute your own story and ideas!
- Make an advising appointment: Meet with the FMST Undergrad Advisor to develop a path to completing the major.
- Attend office hours: Get in the habit of attending TA and faculty office hours.
- Get to know the FMST community: Attend Baskin Feminist Scholars study sessions and other FMST events!
- Check out the FMST YouTube channel to see interviews with FMST alums and other videos.
Winter - Year 1
- Intern: Find an internship at UCSC or in the community.
- Get involved: Attend Baskin program events and meet fellow FMST students!
- Show up to events: Attend a FMST colloquium or Cultural Studies colloquium.
- Career Advice Network: Schedule a free consultation with the Career Advice Network (CAN).
- Prepare for grad school: Start researching graduate programs. Admission opens in Fall!
Spring - Year 1
- Attend office hours: What was your favorite FMST class this year? Visit that professor's office hours.
- Apply for scholarships: Apply to the department's scholarships for internships, research, and other experiential learning.
- Visit the Career Center: Attend a job fair or meet with a career advisor for a 1:1 session.
- Share your experience: Speak at a roundtable of current students during FMST Prospective Transfer Visit Day.
SUMMER SESSION
- Enroll in Summer Session: Get ahead in your major requirements by enrolling in Summer Session!
- Volunteer/Intern: Get involved and gain experience at a local community organization.
- Senior Project/Thesis: Create a bibliography and do preliminary research towards your senior project or thesis, if you are pursuing that route.
Fall - Year 2
- Make an advising appointment: Meet with the FMST Undergrad Advisor to confirm you're on track to complete your FMST exit requirement.
- Apply for a tutoring job: Consider applying for a tutoring or MS I position for Feminist Studies.
- Apply to grad school: Be aware of graduate school application deadlines; start gathering materials early!
- Letters of Recommendation: If you are applying to grad school, ask faculty for letters of recommendation at least one month ahead of the deadline.
- Show up to events: Attend a Baskin Feminist Scholars study sessions and other FMST events!
Winter - Year 2
- Visit the Career Center: Practice your job interviewing skills, clean up your resume, and talk to mentors about next steps.
- Attend office hours: Discuss your plans for graduate school and employment after graduation.
- Show up to events: Attend Baskin Feminist Scholars study sessions and other FMST events!
- Spread the word: Volunteer to table for FMST at a UCSC event such as the Summer Opportunities Fair or Cultivamos Excelencia de la Familia.
Spring - Year 2
- Apply for awards: Submit a project or research paper you are particularly proud of.
- Make an advising appointment: Meet with the FMST Undergrad Advisor to ensure all requirements are complete.
- Apply for graduation: It's not enough to just complete your requirements. You must APPLY for
- graduation!
- Present your project: Present your senior thesis or senior seminar paper at the Annual FMST Undergraduate Research Symposium.
- Graduate and Celebrate! You made it!
