Letter to Undergrads re: Fall 2022 grades

January 30, 2023

Hello,

We hope you are taking care of yourselves and each other amidst the climate crises and everyday violence that surrounds us.

As you may be aware, any missing grades from Fall 2022, were converted into a “Pass”/P grade on January 18, 2023 by the University Registrar, following the Committee on Education Policy’s guidelines. We want you to know that you will not be negatively impacted by the temporary ‘P’ on your transcript, and that the Feminist Studies department is working to expedite the process through which Fall quarter grades are assessed by qualified readers who will be paid fairly for this work.

We are working with our teaching assistants to determine how much time will be needed to complete this grading, as well as making sure that this work is paid for by central funding so TAs across the campus are fairly compensated. We assure you that we are doing all we can to urge the administration to release the funds and fill reader positions as soon as possible so grades can be submitted in a timely manner. If you need a letter grade for some urgent reason, please get in touch with your instructor.

We want to reiterate that, as faculty, our investment in teaching and research is tied to our commitment to ensuring that all our colleagues, including our graduate students, have a living wage and fair and just working conditions. We maintain that their working conditions are your learning conditions.

Warm regards,

Feminist Studies Faculty
