On November 19, FMST Professor Anjali Arondekar, co-director of UCSC’s Center for South Asian Studies, was interviewed on KCBS Radio about UC Davis adding caste to its anti discrimination policy, one of the first universities in the country to do this.
“This is a landmark in many ways,” said Prof. Arondekar. “Caste is really about labor segmentation and sustained inequality through the years — millenniums, really. Caste discrimination isn’t something that just belongs in India, but something that travels with the millions of people who inhabit the South Asian disaporas.”
