Professor Bettina Aptheker's celebrated FMST 1 class made available on DVD

July 24, 2008

Prof. Bettina Aptheker

It is with great pleasure that the Department of Feminist Studies would like to convey an exciting announcement regarding one of our Faculty, Professor Bettina Aptheker.

In 2003, an effort was begun to tape the lectures of FMST 1 (Formerly WMST 01A) and make the lectures available to the public, other universities and secondary educators around the world. Recently, the taping project was completed. It was a significant undertaking, involving transferring and editing nearly 70 hours of raw footage into the final 17 DVDs, which will be sold at the campus Bay Tree Bookstore. More information is available at: http://www.introtofem.org.

On Friday, April 25, 2008 at 2 PM, the Bay Tree bookstore hosted an opening celebration for the release of the Introduction to Feminisms DVDs as part of the UCSC Alumni Reunion Weekend (http://alumni.ucsc.edu/reunions/). The celebration highlighted the work that Bettina and other faculty on campus have done and the expanding universe of feminist scholarship on the campus.
